Our Process

Our process is split into two phases:

Design

Tatum Drafting Studio uses Chief Architect software in our Design phase to create 3D models that we can share, so you can see and move through your dream home before its built.

This can include preliminary floorplans, 3D images, guided walk-throughs and design sessions or short video walk-throughs you can share with friends and family giving you the opportunity to see the design and request changes.

Construction Documents

The Construction Documents phase is where we take your approved design and finalize it into a set of working drawings from which your home can be built.

In this phase the final plans are checked with a fine-tooth comb to make sure everything is accurate to your specifications. True, its the less glamorous part of our work, but its important to us that we get it right and deliver a quality set of house plans.

Remodels

If you're ready to bring your dream home into reality through an addition or remodel, Tatum Drafting Studio is happy to work with you. Like any of our projects, the client has final approval of designs, because we know your vision matters and we want to help make it real.

Your addition or remodel begins by creating your existing home as a 3D model. Discussing your vision, we collect your ideas and make recommendations in order to get design on the right track from the start.

A preliminary 3D design is then created allowing you to see your future home in relation to your existing home, and compare the result to your vision before demolishing any walls.

About Us

Stephen Tatum was born and raised in Amarillo, TX where he graduated in 2005 from Randall High School and soon after joined the United States Marine Corps, serving from 2005 to 2009.

While in the Marines, Stephen trained as a member of an artillery crew and was stationed in California early in 2006. During the summer of 2006, he and his unit deployed to Okinawa, Japan and served in the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit before returning to California in early 2007. Upon his return, he began preparations for his

deployment to Iraq in the summer of 2007. After returning in early 2008, Stephen remained in the states continuing to train and prepare the next generation of Marines. It was during this time that Stephen discovered his passion for designing houses and felt he had gained a purpose in his life to create  beautiful homes for deserving families.

After leaving the Marines with an honorable discharge, he went home to Amarillo and graduated with honors from Amarillo College in 2014, receiving an Associates Degree in Drafting and Design and beginning his career. During his time at Amarillo College, Stephen would go to the cafeteria to do homework along with other students. It was here that he met Mariah, who to this day disputes with Stephen over who saw who first.

Stephen asked Mariah to marry him in the spring of 2015. One year later they were married in front of family and friends in Palo Duro Canyon State Park. Palo Duro Canyon remains a special place to Stephen and Mariah and they visit the park as often as they can.

During the summer of 2017, Stephen and Mariah moved to Lubbock, TX where he worked for a design firm and grew his career. In 2018 the first of Stephen's designs was built in the Fox Ridge neighborhood of Lubbock. Many more houses designed by him would be built in the following years and his knowledge, experience and passion grew. Since then he has worked hard to bring his design philosophy of beautiful and functional homes into reality.

In 2023, Stephen and Mariah decided to move back home to Amarillo in order to be closer to friends and family. It is in Amarillo that Stephen continues his design career and strives to create beautiful homes for you and your family.
